Interlude: 20 Years of Double Dialogues

Interlude: 20 Years of Double Dialogues

I: Ruptures, Breakages and Reinventions

Ann McCulloch
Professsor Emerita, Deakin University
It was twenty years ago that Double Dialogues was born. The first conference was held at Theatre Works in St Kilda in order to accommodate what was now new to the conference scene: theatre, film, dance, creative writing and music, alongside philosophical discourse about the Arts.

II: Dialogues

Ann McCulloch
In Part II of this ‘Interluding Monograph’ there are two pieces of writing that serve to represent the dialogue between art and the discourse about it and are endemic to both the concerns of the journals’ Double Dialogues and In/Stead.

i. Fear of Representation

Ann McCulloch
In the next few days, we are going to hear unique narratives whether in poetic, musical, theatrical or philosophical terms concerning Art and asking of it to consider ‘Why Do Things Break?’

ii. House of Flowers

Jennifer Rutherford
Florence and I are packing her bags when my father calls. Mum has collapsed and been admitted to the hospital. It’s a diversion I haven’t anticipated although I’ve been looking for a diversion.
